Under the background of the new era, it is of profound significance to the growth of students and the development of the country to strengthen students’ labor education and improve students’ labor quality. Donghua Primary School in Fushan District of Yantai launched a labor education activity with vegetable planting as the theme on March 11.

Before the activity officially started, the principal Liang Youwei made a speech: He encouraged the children to have rich practical ability and labor skills in addition to studying hard; It is hoped that this activity can help students to improve themselves in labor and change and create their own lives with their hands.

The school hired two uncle and guard aunt three workers with rich experience as the school labor technology consultant, on-site guidance students grow vegetables, experience the process of labor, together to explore the mystery of planting.

The first step of planting vegetables is to clean up the stones and level the land. First, the three technical consultants showed their personal demonstration, and then the students began to quickly pick up the dead sticks and stones in the wasteland, and then loosen the soil and apply fertilizer. The soil was very hard, the students really experienced the taste of “sweat drops of grass under the soil”. The second step in planting vegetables is ridging and watering. The second step was the most critical and difficult step to master in the whole planting process. The students listened carefully to Grandpa’s instructions on ridging and watering operation skills and matters requiring attention. Through constant trial and error, they grasped the technology and improved their skills, and realized the difficulty of labor and the importance of learning. The third step of planting vegetables is sowing. In order to make the seeds absorb as much nutrition as possible, the students used the method of planting seeds in rows. This way each vegetable will not disturb the other vegetables, and we will all thrive together. Finally, the soil is gently covered, the thickness is generally two to three fingers, to better ensure the germination rate of the seed.

After a morning’s work, the students not only gained knowledge, but also gained the love of labor and life. I believe that under the careful and orderly care of the students, here will be fruitful and become the most beautiful scenery of Donghua Primary School.
